Pros and cons please. Do you recommend it?

If you mainly record videos, no.

If you want a nice camera to show off on tumblr and to your friends, sure.

If you plan on actually learning about photography, yes.

If you expect a $500 camera to magically take nice pictures, no. No cameras will do that.

If you have the time and desire to learn how to properly use it, I'd recommend it, sure.
If you expect to point it at something, press a button, and somehow end up with amazing photos, no.

Basically, its a perfectly fine entry-level DSLR, just know that DSLRs require work and aren't just professional versions of point-and-shoots. Also, when buying a DLSR for the first time its very important to remember you're buying into the 'system' not necessarily the camera alone. By system I mean all of the accessories as well (lenses, flashes, future bodies, etc.) You'll want to consider the lens selection of any given manufacturer and also their reputation and history.

Oh, and a DLSR can be a gateway drug to spending a ton of money on gear (if you're gear-obsessed and think that the 'next' lens will turn you into Ansel Adams or something.) Even if you're not of that mentality you will most likely eventually end up buying at least 2 or 3 more lenses and various other accessories.

If you want videos no. If you're new to photography, then you should probably use a point and shoot for now. When you learn how to do photograph. Then a d3100 will be a good camera for you. Just don't expect it to be cheap.gonna be somewhere in $700.so yes. You will be happy if you're not taking videos

You will be happy with a D3000 if you know the basic principles of photography and if your budget is rock bottom low. You won't be happy with a D3000 if you think you can take gorgeous shots with it all the time without knowing anything more than to press the button.
