Why won't my Nikon D3100 connect to my computer?

My Nikon D3100 is brand new, and I took a decent amount of pictures that I want to upload, but when I connect it to my computer nothing comes up.
I have a Mac OS X.
Can anyone tell me how to connect my camera to my computer?

Why don't you just insert the memory card in the card reader on your Mac and copy the image files that way?
After all, that is the best and fastest way to transfer the images to your computers hard drive.

Funny I had the same problem and couldn't find a solution because I was in a hurry
I'd say take off the memory card and put it in a card reader
