Why won't my slr camera turn on?

I have a nikon d5000 and a few nights ago i was about to take a picture and it just turned off. I figured it was dead so i charged it and once it was fully charged it still won't turn on at all.
Does anyone know what's wrong? :/

Sometimes rechargeable batteries die. I'd replace the battery and try again.
