Why SLR price is going up?

In Australia SLR camera price is going up, specially Nikon d3100. The prices in Kogan is really unstable. Kogan used to sell d3100 for AUD 489. Later it went up AUD 579 and now since last week the price AUD 619. There's no significant changes in Australian currency rate. So why still the price going up instead of going down. Is it due to christmas. Where I can buy a cheap SLR Camera.

Camera prices tend to go up for a few reasons
1.change of yen to your home currency
2.changes in import tariff
3.shortages
In this case yoiu may be feeling the effects of the Thailand flooding which is were most or all of the D3100 were made

I'm sure it doesn't matter to you but SLR refers to film cameras. DSLR refers to digital cameras which you are talking about.
I agree could be any number of economic reasons.

The Japanese earthquake, thailand floods etc have disrupted supply. Short supply = increased value.
The general poor performance of western currencies against the YEN is another.
I would buy now, accept the price premium, because it is going to get worse before it gets better.

The October floods in Thailand have all but shut down Nikon's consumer DSLR production, including D3100 production. So whatever availability there's would be those units in the supply chain; dealer shelves, etc.
Production is supposed to return to normal levels in a few months.
