Why doesn't a SDHC card in the Nikon D80 register a picture count?

The card is working, is formatted but doesn't show how many shots there are on the card.

Do you have your camera set to its highest resolution?

It could be that the new card can hold so many images that it does not make a change in the total number of shots does not show up on your LCD screen

Question:

Are you copying all your images to your computer at the end of each shooting day and once they are safely on your computer, formatting the card using the format feature on your camera?
