Of those two lenses the 70-200 is a much better lens.

The two lenses are for different purposes.

The 18-300mm is designed for an "all-in-one" or "walk-around" lens, so that you can keep your lens changes to minimum. However, lenses of these types (12x or more) tend to begin suffering from optical issues, as manufacturers simply can't build high quality high power zoom lenses. So realize that this lens will work better when stopped down 1 or 2 stops. For that reason, it is really a vacation lens, or perhaps a daylight lens.

The 70-200mm f/2.8 are considered sports lenses, and this lens is perhaps one of the best zoom lenses Nikon makes. Optically speaking, it is far superior to the 18-300mm. Since it is a fast lens - it's application is for sports, portraiture (it has superior bokeh), and lower-light conditions. What you lose on the low end (18-70mm) v. The 18-300, you gain in high performance on the telephoto end.

While a 70-200 is not normally considered a portrait lens, the outstanding bokeh of this lens makes it one, and some pros have gone to using it for portraiture.

So it depends on your application. All around lens; go with the 18-300 (as it will also replace your 18-105mm kit lens). Sports - go with the 7-200.
