Which is the better deal?

I started my own photography business two months ago and it's really starting to pick up!

I currently am using a 35mm pentax zx-60 with a sigma 28-200mm lens. It's a great camera but I'm quickly getting tired of having to develop the film, edit, then put photos on a disk for my clients. It takes alot of time!

I will be purchasing a DSLR this weekend and have narrowed it down to two packages w/in my price range.

the first one is at costco. They have the sony A330 10Mp dslr.their package comes with an 18-55 and a 55/200 lens kit, 4g memory card, and the carrying case for 549.00

the second on one is on amazon. It's the nikon d3000 with 18-55 and 55-200mm nikkor lens for 568.00

the nikon deal doesn't include the memory card or case so I'd have to buy those

I know nikon is probably the better camera but i've heard the lenses on the sony are good and the sony camera is a decent one for new people which I'm.

Neither.

Why go for another make when you can get a K-x and your lenses from your 35mm will fit.

Are you UK based? The prices give no indication of currency.
If you are, then Park Cameras do a great deal.

I have to echo the Pentax comment. You already have a Pentax and any lenses will work with a new Pentax DSLR body. (I personally shoot a K100D and love it.)

There's nothing wrong with using a Sony for pro work. Plenty of professionals do. And it always amuses me when people start going on about how Sony has proprietary this and that and how that is a disadvantage. But then you see these same people saying to only buy OEM. I guess that only applies if you own Canon or Nikon.

But I agree with other posters that you might consider staying with Pentax. You should be able to use the lenses and accessories that you have with a Pentax DSLR. Get to a store and check them out and see what you think. Hold them in your hands before you make your choice.

To answer your question, I would say go for the a330. Its got added live view and in-body stabilization and the ability to use Konica Minolta lenses that autofocus. I would suggest aiming a bit higher in the range though because if you decide to get a vertical grip, Sony didn't make one for that model. Maybe a450 or a500/550?

People who say only professionals use Canon and Nikon are definitely wrong. I know professionals that use Sony such as Brian Smith and Nigel Barker. I myself have a photography business and using Sony equipment and there's nothing wrong with that. Its a bit sad that people say you are aren't a professional unless you're using Canon or Nikon. Its not about the camera, its how you use it.
