I have decided on a d5100 as a dslr ( thou still open to canon 600d or 60d) needing your opinion on which is a better deal. Buying from kogan online, grey market, yet aust warranty which includes the standard kit ( 18mm-55mm ). Or take advantage of Harvey Normans 20% canons and Nikon's and get the d5100 with twin lens kit ( 18mm-55mm & 55mm - 300mm) uses will be landscape, travel and portrait.

Prices Kogan: $780 inc. Post
Harvy: $ 1020 ( with 20% off)

As it was explained to me by a professional, what you need to do is visit a retail outlet and get the feel for the cameras as it will make a difference to the one you buy.
they all feel slightly different and it is what suits you best really. Weight and grip the main items.
all the rest like lenses are all much of a muchness.

I like the two lens kit for your D5100.

This combination will keep you busy for years

Nice camera by the way

Suggest you revisit the Canon 60D option. It's one helluva camera, and I'm a Nikon guy.

Maybe you want to get the Nikon D5100 body and the Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD LD Aspherical IF Macro Zoom Lens. Not changing lenses save a lot of hassle and keeps the sensor cleaner.
