What's the difference between NON-VR and VR?
Does anyone know the difference between 18-55mm Lens (NON-VR) Kit and 18-55mm VR Lens Kit?
Help! I want to buy the Nikon D3000 but I don't know which lens to buy. Is there a difference to it. And what's the difference?
VR has image stabilization. If you don't know what that is, google is your friend.
VR is vibration reduction. It allows you to hand hold your camera a couple stops slower on the shutter speed.
Breaking it down: VR = vibration reduction. When you take a picture at too slow of a shutter speed you get what is called "camera shake," basically caused by involuntary movements of your body, everyone has them to some degree. To avoid camera shake you have to shoot at a shutter speed of 1/focal length of your lens or faster at minimum. If you have a 50mm lens shoot at 1/50 of a second or the next fastest shutter speed after that. If you have a 100mm lens shoot at 1/100 of second or faster, you get the idea. What VR does is allow you to shoot slower than 1/focal length by a number of stops which depends on the quality of the VR. This will come in handy when there's not enough available light to shoot in and you don't have a wide enough aperture or high enough ISO to do the job.
