A nikon is nice but the simple truth is is that canon's i find a better if you are into photography you should go for a bit more money and get the canon rebel t2i it takes excellent pics and does full HD video at 30 frames a second.

The D7000 is a great bit of kit. But at £1200ish it isn't really a beginner DSLR. You'd be better off starting with the D5000/3100 to learn the basic concepts of SLR photography, you will feel overwhelmed by higher-spec SLRs as when they get closer to the top end, they get harder to use (SLRs have different levels:
Beginner (Nikon D3100/5000, Sony A350, Canon 1000D), intermediate (Canon 550D, Sony A33/55 Nikon D90), prosumer (Nikon D300, Canon 1D, Sony A700) and Professional (Sony A900, Canon 5D Mk3, Nikon D3 etc… ).

Trying to learn photography on a higher-end SLR is like trying to learn to drive in an F1 car.

You won't find a cheap body for a D7000 yet, they're way too new.

Feel free to Flickr mail me if you want to discuss further (email is on my profile as well).Name is Evansshoots. Hope this helps.
