It's apparent you don't understand. There are no specific settings because each photo situation is unique - different light, different subjects - you can't just set it and forget it.

I would suggest a night course in dslr photography, read your owner's manual, go on line for information. There's a gazillion sources out there.

The best setting for your D70s is on a shelf while you READ & STUDY the Owner's Manual and begin learning how to use the camera. Your question makes as much sense as me asking you this: "I live in Indiana. What's the best route to the next state?" You'd likely want to know where in Indiana and which state. Ohio? Kentucky? Illinois? Michigan?

You must learn that there are no "settings" to use for your D70s that anyone on here can tell you to use.

If you asked about photographing a landscape I'd tell you this: "Always use a tripod. Maximize your Depth of Field. Use ISO 100. Shoot in Aperture Priority. Have your camera set at its maximum resolution. Use a remote release or the camera's self-timer to release the shutter."

If you asked about photographing a city skyline at night I'd tell you this: "I use and recommend this site - http://www.calculator.org/...osure.aspx - to choose low-light exposures. I chose 'Distant view of city skyline or floodlit buildings' and ISO 200 for these pictures:
100mm @ f11, exposure of 30 seconds.
200mm @ f11, exposure of 30 seconds.

So start learning about your camera and its features and what they are and how to use them.

Power off?

No, you really should use aperture size settings, shutter speed settings, medium sensitivity settings and sometimes, white balance settings. You do all of those after you have correctly assessed the amount and quality of light hitting your subject as positioned in the scene you are about to take. If this page seems German to you ( http://www.illustratedphotography.com/basic-photography ), leave your mode dial to A then glue it in place.
