I have a Nikon D5100 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens and i just got it so i don't know much about settings and stuff. What settings is best for taking pictures christmas morning? Indoors, not a whole lot of light, christmas tree lights and kids that move a lot.

Set the cameras ISO to 3200, set the exposure mode to aperture priority, open the lenses aperture all the way and set the white balance to incandescent.

That should do it.

Don't worry about noise in the images caused by shooting at high ISO's since this can be reduced in post. Shooting at lower ISO's to attempt to rid the images of noise will introduce blur due to camera and/or subject movement due to the slower shutter speeds necessary in low light and low ISO settings.

If you decide to use the flash, you will need to lower the ISO and set the white balance to flash

ISO either 1600 or 3200 (probably 3200, unless you have an extremely well lit room) if you don't want to use flash. I honestly prefer higher ISO to flash. Fast shutter speed (1/125 at the slowest) and aperture around 5.6-6.3, I would say. Try to get the shutter speed pretty fast (the higher the number on the bottom, the faster it is) if your kids are moving a lot, otherwise there will be motion blur.

There are no magic settings… Use the flash… Use your skills and knowledge of the camera to lead you…

do you know about ISO, aperture, shutter speed? Do you know anything that might help you?

high ISO, largest aperture, composition, flash…

To save messing about i just use full auto and make adjustments later in photoshop.
