My husband wants a new lens for Nikon D3000, he wants a lens that zooms better than the one he has AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm.
He wants one that will auto focus, not manually… Please help

Check out the Nikon 55-200 VR and 55-300 VR.

I just bought the 18-200mm VR lens. Can't say it's better, but you can get closer to your subject.

Sounds like he wants a Nikon 18-200mm vr lens.

AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR. Best for D3000. You will not regret!

There are three good options:
Nikkor 55-200mm VR (the cheapest)
Nikkor 55-300mm VR (a bit more reach)
Nikkor 18-200mm VR (as much reach as the 55-200, but also includes the zoom range of the 18-55 and saves you from lots of lens swaps)

If the budget is available, i'd get the 18-200mm. The difference between 200mm and 300mm is not that big, but the convenience of not having to swap lenses and carry a second lens with one is a huge bonus.
Here you can try out the zoom ranges of different lenses:

Beware, there's also a version of the 55-200 without VR. Stay away from that one.

I'd advise against third party telephoto lenses, stick to Nikon/Nikkor. They're not that much more expensive but significantly better for the very most part. Tamron and Sigma both make some good lenses, but budget telephoto lenses are not among these.
Well, to be fair Sigmas 70-300mm APO has a decent reputation, but you'd direly miss the image stabilizer on that one.
