What is better Nikon or Cannon?

So I've been looking to get a camera for Christmas from my Parents.
I'm not really familiar with nikon or cannon cameras. I like more of the nature woodsy high fashion types of pictures. I have been looking at two camera the Nikon d3100 and Canon EOS Rebel T2i
does any one have experience or background knowledge on either of these?

Ah… The oldest question on this forum. Actually between these two brands when you're comparing apples to apples there's no best. Both companies make excellent equipment.So, it's going to be a matter of personal preference.So, pick one already.

I guess you could say that Nikon and Canon fight is very much like the Mac (Nikon) V. S PC (Canon) canon is preferred for its lens and and pro controls that aren't confusing and when you do get more advanced you can set the camera to a more advanced mode with extreme else

Nikon really is used because of its wide lens selection pro looking cameras, and wide lens selection you will be told by people who use nikon that nikon is better but it really is a matter of preference if your not sure go to a store and compare models based on how easy you think it will be to use for your parents all canon and nikon cameras pretty much have the same menu system so youll get the basic idea of what your getting with the models

Nikon mac and canon pc? I ALWAYS think its the other way around. I find canon users like mac users pay for a more expensive kit with less or similar performance like in a mac, anyway. I would get the d5100 over the T2i, but would get the T2i over the d3100

And none is better. You like fashion pics, but did you ever try shooting that? A DSLR won't just make everything look awesome, you need some practice and skills later too.

T2i is more expensive, has better video, 3.7 vs 3fps and that's mostly it.

Just read reviews of the product you are going to buy. Compare pictures made with them.compare prices ergonomy and the likes.
