What is/are good entry-level SLR/s?
I'm thinking of indulging myself to photography. Since I don't have anyone to ask about what entry-level SLR to buy, I'm here to ask you. The Nikon D3100 has positive reviews and for its price, it's very affordable and worth the money I guess. I'm not that sure since I don't have any idea.
Is the Nikon D3100 a good one to start with? What other entry level SLRs would you recommend and why?
There's no really bad DSLRs on the market, not any more. Difference is if you move beyond the body and kit lens. Brands like Olympus, Sony and Pentax have less lenses to choose from and can be more expensive.
Nikon's D3100 is a very interesting option at the moment since it offers a lot of bang for a surprisingly decent amount of buck. Additionally the Nikon system is quite solid, there's a nice collection of affordable beginners lenses should you wish to grow.
With a DSLR your buying into a system the least expensive high quality system is Pentax by far.
You could get the Pentax Kx

Or for higher budget the new Kr with it's new sensor which has the widest dynamic range and low noise capability of any entry level camera

Image stabilisation is built into the camera so any lens you fit is Image Stabilised, no extra cost for stabilisation, full backwards compatibility with any K mount lens made since 1973 (loads on eBay available cheaply) all will be image stabilised. All the functions you will ever need, with some entry level Nikon's you don't even get bracketing other functions are absent too, you have to buy the more expensive motorised lens to get auto focusing, and even more if you want image stabilisation.
It's not true that Nikon has the widest range of lenses, they have 3 versions of the same lenses as everyone else, the unmotorised version, the motorised version and the Image Stabilised version.
I can recommend SRS (usual disclaimer - just a satisfied customer over many years) they are a genuine seller who know what they are talking about, not just 'box shifters'.
The D3100 is excellent, the best you can get right now. Great quality, excellent video features with continous AF while recording, light and small. Just great.
