What is a great lens for a Nikon D7000?

I'm looking to do some outdoor photography and just wanted to know what would be a great lens to get some great shots. Would a wide lens do the job? Also what would be a great lens for portraits? Some recommended me with a telephoto lens, but never used them before.

Yes… If it's outdoor, you can use wide angle lens… Go to nikon/sigma/tamron site and see all the lens…

The single lens solution has been the 18-200 mm lens.
Now there's a new lens, the 18-300 mm which may fit your needs better.
At 55 mm with any of your zoom lenses, you can take nice outdoor portraits.

I is only $150 more than the 18-200 mm and may just be the lens for you

That depends on what you'll be shooting.
If you portraits, a $100 50 1.8 would serve you well.
But for now, just get the 18-105 kit lens.

It all depends on your budget. The 70-200 f2.8 is great and the 85mm f1.4 is a great portrait lens.
