Is nikon d7000 great for night shots?
I'm planning to buy a Nikon d7000 and i was just wondering if it would be good for night shots like shooting a moonlit landscape or stars at night. I I have got a tight budget and i can't shell out more than the price of d7000. Please help, thanks.
Added (1). Which would be the best lens for the above said purpose?
Yes it would, the d7000 is a very good camera for the price, reviewers rave over it. As for lenses, well a Nikon user will have to help you there as I'm more of a Canon user but it's a good camera to buy for sure.
Any DLSR is great for night shots… All you need is a tripod and use your bulb setting with a remote trigger… But if your hand held… Go with a low F stop lens and high iso… To know more about night shots just look it up on you tube… Just type how to do night shots and join a local photography club on group meet ups.com heres some of my work
As written above any dslr is good for night stuff but you need an understanding of "time exposure".
Here's an article on the subject.

If you ask a question that leads us to believe you expect a camera to just shoot pictures in the dark that tells us you really don't understand.
It is great for night or low light shots.

The D700 shoots clean pictures at 1600 ISO and usable up to 6400. For example something like the bouquet toss at a reception is often done in poor light. By using 1600 instead of 400 you get the equivalent of 4 times more light. At ISO400 your flash may need to use 1/4 power and you can get 1 maybe 2 shots of the toss and catch before the flash needs to recharge. At ISO1600 your flash would only need to use 1/16th power and now you can get 5-6 shots, all the while maintaining high picture quality.
Some of its other features are:
- High Resolution 16.2 MP DX-format CMOS sensor
- High Speed 6 frames per second continuous shooting up to 100 shots
- Breathtaking Full 1080p HD Movies with Full Time Autofocus
- Dynamic ISO range from 100 to 6400
- Ground-breaking 2, 016-pixel RGB (3D Color Matrix) exposure sensor
Read this review from a user. It has great detail and gives pros and cons of the camera:

Hope this helps.
A good lens would probably be the 24mm f2.8 AF-D. The sharpness is not great wide open, but it improves stopped down.

The good thing about this lens is that it should be possible to dial it to infinity in the dark.
I have a Sigma 15mm fisheye, and it's pretty good.
However, the distance scale is not accurate. Sigma claims that is not a defect. It takes some experimenting in advance autofocusing in daylight to discover what point on the distance scale is really infinity. Distance scales on the zoom lenses that have them are often just decorations.
Yes. It is great for night shots
With d7000 you will click the pix of stars? Don't you think. It is height of madness. Its a big money for clicking stars only…
Yes its great for night shots. Along with the camera you can go for Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens
Yes, nikon d7000 is great for night shots. Its quality is best and lenses in camera are good.
