What is a great beginner camera?

I'm going to buy a new SLR camerca this month but i need a good one that worth it.
I'm into spontaneous, good for portraits cameras as well as travel and outdoor meaning light and not to big.
So what i had in mind is Nikon D3000 or D3100 or D5000
i want it to take great photos as well as videos too. Like a balance between both.
What was your favorite beginner camera? Suggest any for me that i would like?

Fuji Film cameras are the best for beginners, there cheap, easy to use and the features on them for the price you pay are really good. You will definitly get your money's worth.

Cannon powershot. It also has some really cool features on it such as being able to change colors (i.e.change all of the green colors you see in the picture to pink), or you can take black and white photographs and only accent one other color (such as red). Pretty neat start & good quality photos/videos

sorry, i've never had a nikon. Only fujifilms, panasonic, and cannons.

Well for video, the D3100 is the best up there. It is the best all-around in that group.

as for what you want to shoot, you will have to get different lenses. For portraits, a good portrait lens, such as the 50mm f/1.4

Along with Nikon comes Canon which is also really good. I suggest you look at these two models: Canon T1i, and T2i. The D3100 compares with the T2i.

For beginner try Nikon D3100, it is a good camera.
Also you have some good cameras in Canon like Canon 500D and Canon 550D.

Nikon D3100 is the best for your buck. Great images, great video, easy to use.
