What DSLR should I go for?

I'm interested in a DSLR that wouldnt cost the world. I would also be interested into some big aperture lens, wide angle and fisheye. My main problem is the cost of lens.
A am an amateur photographer and I only had a Nikon D40. I loved it until I run into its limitations. 3 autofocus sensors, no image stabilization and no autofocus motor into its body meant expensive lens. I liked it for its colour reproduction, for its size and its friendly menu. I also had a 35mm F1.8 Nikkor which I thought was amazing.
I would go for a cheap Sony Alpha since I heard it would be compatible with cheap old Minolta lens easily found on auction sites. Too bad I can only find mid-zoom Minoltas.
How about Canon?
Should I go for a more expensive Nikon that would autofocus with AF lens?

The Nikon DX 35mm f1.8 is very good lense for Cropped sensor body. Since you already own nikon, my suggestion is stick to nikon. Nikon D7000 definitely rock, watch this video(link below) that produced by US Famous commercial photographer Chase Jarvis. This body allow you to take good photo & video. Many Pro using it as second body for scoulting some minor shoot and promo video.

If you already have lenses for Nikon, you should stick with them. It'll cut down the cost of upgrading. As mentioned, the D7000 is great camera, though I suspect it's a little out of your price range. Alternatively, you could shop around for a used D90.It's a little older, but still a good camera, and would be nice upgrade coming from a D40.
As for the lenses, I don't think there's any way of side stepping the cost. Other brands are all priced similarly.
