Nikon SLR Cameras

What camera should I upgrade my DSLR to?

I currently have a Nikon D5100, but am currently not pleased with it. I'm looking for a camera body to upgrade to, to replace mine. I currently have a 18-55mm, and 50mm lens. So I would prefer to have another Nikon; but it isn't a priority. I have held the D7000 and like the feel of it; but would like to know if there's anything better. I would like to keep the price to around $1000-1200.

I would suggest a Canon EOS 5D Mark III. I know the priocec is a little higher than what you want to spend but, let's face it, you are looking for perfection. You could check Craigslist [be safe] to find a good deal on a body only.

Best of luck!

Going from the entry-level 5100 to the entry-level 7000 is a waste of time. (I know people will tell me the 7000 is not an entry-level BUT IT IS - all Nikon cameras with 2 and 4 numbers - D90, D7000, D5100, blah blah blah) are entry-level models. There are websites that classify the 7000 as semi-pro, but that is incorrect).

You have not outgrown your 5100. Since you only have one good lens, you are not ready to upgrade your camera body. Reading a few basic photography books will help you improve your photography, buying a new camera won't.

In order to answer this we have to know what you don't like about the D5100.

Nikon DSLR's like other brands have a very much family feel - you go from one model to another and it feels comfortably familiar. So if you don't like the feel of the D5200 or the controls then it is unlikely that you will like the D7000.

It is important to note too that if you are taking lousy photos with the D5100 then an upgrade will not suddenly deliver top quality shots. Lousy photographer plus top quality camera still equals lousy photographs!

If you Really have that much money to waste then yeah, i would say D7000 or a Canon 5D.
Although my advice is to just stick with what you got because it's still a good camera.
