What camera is good for scene pictures of people?

I'm looking into buying a Nikon D3000 Digital SLR Camera i generally take pictures of people and my friend. Is it worth getting? I have a canon powershot g10 it isn't as good as i expected.

Of course it is, that and much more.
The 18-55 mm lens will cover landscapes, group shots (with or without people) full body shots as well as head and shoulder portraits
