Find a course, find a beginners book even.

Get to grips with concepts as shutter speed, aperture, iso, know how these influence your picture and how to set them on the camera.

The basics are:
1.read the camera manual
2.fiddle with the camera to familiarize yourself with it
3.read a book on general photography (from the library or bookstore) or take a class.

After you do this, you will know what aperture, shutter speed, depth of field, exposure and composition all mean, and you can be on your way to taking good pictures.

It's no different from any system camera, whether it's a rangefinder, a medium format TLR or a view camera.

Step 1 - Familiarise yourself with operating the camera in PASM modes. Forget auto and scene modes they're not meant for photographers. Your manual should go somewhere to help you with that. This book is also very useful: http://www.amazon.co.uk/...817439390/

Step 2 - I don't know how much experience you have with visual arts, but the fundamentals of composition apply to all it's forms, whether it's graphic design, painting or cinematography.

Thats your two fundamentals. After step two you're ready to explore light and add more feel to your images. It's a progressive thing and you may be ready to go onto this phase while still working on the other two.
