What accessories do I NEED to buy that do not come with NIKON D5000?

I'm buying the Nikon D5000 it comes with the 18-55mm VR lens, what else do I need to get for this camera, lens or accesory wise? I'm a amateur and just want a really good camera to task pictures of ou children, so I do not need the best items.

Don't spend on anything else until you got familiar with the camera.

Essentials:
- memory card (8gb class 4 or preferably 6)
- rocket blower
- lens pen or microfiber cloth
- simple bag

Highly recommended: A lens hood for that lens it takes the hb-45 but an ebay clone will work just as well.

Optional, a protective filter.(hoya or b+w multicoated) I prefer not to use those except on the beach or things like that but many people with small and messy children prefer them.

I always recommend an extra battery, memory cards, a well padded camera case, a mono and/or tripod, and a cleaning kit.

As far as lenses go, take your camera to your local camera store and try various lenses to find the ones that will suit the photography you plan on doing.

To do what you've mentioned, you already have what you need. The rest are just "wants". You might consider an external flash, but it's not a required piece of gear.
