Upgrading from a nikon d60?

I want to become more serious in photography and want to start taking peoples senior photos,
i have a nikon d60 and a nikon 50mm f1.8 and the kit lens 18-55mm
i want to get one more lens and upgrade
but i don't know what lens to get and what dslr to upgrade to
i was thinking a nikon d7000

From everything I know (I'm a Canon guy) the D60 is a fine camera… Why would you need to change it. Just add lenses.
The fact is any lens will do portrait work if you know how to operate the camera and use lighting.
You'll probably find sharper lenses than your kit but a more expensive camera won't change anything or improve your photos, that's up to you.

I up graded from the d60 to the d300s. The best thing I have done in a long time! 2 more megapixals, 100% viewfinder coverage, live view. Not to mention the built in motor, the speed(FPS), and reliability… Using a more "professional" camera makes life a easier! However, I would recommend you start your business and bring in some money before you buy a new camera.
Look into the 70-200mm nikon This is a awesome portrait lens!
Also look at the 85mm F1.4 lens also an awesome lens.
Ken Rocwell has an awesome site. Please read the link I have provided. He does lens reviews and how To's…

The D7000 is a wonderful camera, go ahead and buy it if you can afford it. For portraits, the 50mm f/1.8 works great already. If you want another lens that's suited for portraits, consider getting the AFS Nikkor 85mm f/1.4G.

I'm very pleased with the D7000 and see no major shortcomings. It's not cheap, but you get a lot for your money if you are in the market for a prosumer class DSLR. For users who won't explore and use the MANY options and capabilities of this camera, I would recommend considering the 3100 at less than half the cost. For D70/80/90 users who are ready to step up big time in terms of performance, this is the upgrade you have been waiting for.
