Tamron Lens on Nikon D5100?

Can anyone tell me if the
Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F/2.8 Di II LD Aspherical (IF) would work on my Nikon D5100? As in, will it work like Nikon's AF-S lenses? In short, will the Auto-focus motor work on my D5100 which doesn't have an in-built AF motor.
Sorry about the lame way of asking this question. I'm in a hurry to buy this lens, so am trying to put it in all possible ways…
Added (1). Also, let me know what VC stands for in:
Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II VC LD Aspherical (IF)
is it something to do with reducing vibrations?

Erm maybe i will take Nikon D5100 for me.

Read the specs of the lens.

If you specify Nikon mount it will work mechanically and electronically.
Optically is another matter! It won't come anywhere near the optical quality of a genuine Nikon lens

Yes, it has its own autofocus motor, so it will autofocus. The autofocus is rather slow and noisy though, but absolutely sufficient for anything but sports.
VC indeed stands for vibration reduction, it's the counterpart to Nikon's VR.
The non-VC version is said to be sharper than the VC version, but that's only partially true. I have the VC version myself and while it suffers from a backfocus at 50mm, it is just as sharp as test shots from a non-VC that i compared it to when i focused carefully. I'll send it back for a fine adjustment when i find the time, but as of now that is not a pressing concern.
So… Feel free to get a VC version of that lens, but check it thoroughly. Especially compare the normal AF with live view autofocus results to diagnose misfocusing issues.
BriaR is mistaken, optically the lens is very good. It's comparable to Nikkor lenses that cost two to three times as much.

YES
it will work it will work lovely and offer you lovely pictures. Of course it needs to have a Nikon mount but that is obvious! It will work just fine.VC, mmm vibration Reduction probably.
Anyhow the Tammy Sp AF 17-50mm lens is loved by many for being cheap and offering good image quality. It lacks in weathersealing [aka it has none] but is 3 times as cheap as Nikons offering so there you go. A good buy!
Now to those that say you only should buy Nikkor glass, right are you going to buy the questioner's the lens then? I mean it. This Tammy SP range is 95% as good as Nikkor's.image quality is equal build quality is slightly less obviously.
But for many people who just seek a better lens then the kitlens this is a good step up! Don't diss on the Tammy SP range! It is a very good range!
