I have been looking into purchasing a new camera and I'm deciding between the Nikon D5100 or the Canon EOS Rebel T3 18-55IS? Which one do you think in better? Is there any other SLR cameras that you would suggest for beginners?

Tech wise, the D5100 is better, but that increased performance is negligible to beginners. You won't see a difference

Any dSLR is good for beginners. An entry level camera like the Nikon D5100 to the $43, 000 Hasselblad H4D. Why?

Because they all work the same.

Here is how the Nikon D5100 sensor compares with the Rebel T3

As you can see, the Nikon sensor, especially at high ISO settings out performs the Canon T3

Once you understand this concept, you will be able to use any camera

D5100 competes with Canon EOS T3i.

Canon EOS T3 competes with Nikon D3100.

I'd get the T3i versues D5100, and D3100 versus T3.
