Should I sell my Canon T1i for a Nikon d3000?

Keep in mind I just take pictures as a hobby, I took photography course but still have fairly limited knowledge.

Anywho I was thinking of selling the Canon T1i for say $750 Canadian, with an accessory kit and a tripod. (I'm fairly certain I can do this)

And purchasing the Nikon d3000 for $450 Canadian, which would leave me with $300 to put towards lens/flashes (since I don't have any yet)…

I'm not too concerned about the d3000 not having video recording capabilities (so that would not be a con for me)

However I'm concerned about the image quality difference?

As for lenses let just compare the lens kits that are included with ea.camera.

No, that's a downgrade.

If you sell the T1i you lose $300 to gain $300 to buy flashes. So you're right back where you started. Just save up the money to buy lenses or flashes for the T1i.

Image quality is of no concern.

The D3000 can certainly produce fine images if you have the necessary skills.

It is usually a good idea to do all this research BEFORE you spend any money. Switching camera systems AFTER the fact, as you can tell, is costly.

Make sure that you are buying the camera system you want to be married to for the next few decades.

The camera you will want to look at later (in a few years) is the D3100, but it costs $700.

You already have a very capable camera. I don't see any reason to replace it with another one unless you're getting a Pentax K-x.

Honestly, i would keep the Canon.
Not that the D3000 is a bad camera, but for $300 saving… It doesn't worth the deal:
What could you get for $300? Maybe the 50mm f1.8 for you$100, leaving you with with less than $200 for a flash and no tripod. You won't find any TTL flash at this price.
I understand your frustration, but you'll have to be patient and wait to be able to buy good quality gear.
The T1i is a decent camera and the Kit lens is definitely not that bad.
