I have a Nikon D3100 with a 200mm
My pics are blurry even with my tripod.
Is there such a thing as a' remote switch' on a wire that i could buy so i can take pics without touching my camera body?
Do you use one? Have you used one? Is there such a thing

But this - http://www.amazon.com/...001F6TXME/ - and you'll be set. The 3100 is not compatible with any infrared remotes.

You can get a wireless one, or one with a wire. I have one that I use for my Nikon D80. They are actually quite inexpensive, but tiny.

You will have to set the mode to Remote, as opposed to Single, Continuous, or Self Timer. Once you have it set on Remote, press the button and your shutter will click! Easy as pie.

Also, if you are having trouble with your photo quality, I might suggest getting a 50mm lens. They are excellent lenses with tack-sharp image quality. You may miss the zoom on it, but it is great for everyday photography and will change your images dynamically. Or, you could bump up the ISO on your camera to a higher setting. It helps the shutter close faster and collect more light (and more grain, so be careful not to go too high) so you get a less blurry picture.

Happy shooting!

The D3100 uses a MD-D2 (or 3rd party compatible) remote release cable.

The D3100 can't use the ML-L3 IR wireless remote.

But if you want wireless, buy a set of Yongnuo RF-603N transmitters/receivers. Make sure it is the "N" model or the cord will not fit your camera.

I have one of these and it works well enough. And has a 100ft or so range.

Also when used on a tripod, make sure the VR is turned OFF, as it will otherwise vibrate the tripod and make your photos blurry.

And if your tripod is not heavy duty enough, it could be vibrating in the wind.

There are cable releases and there should be a 10 second timer on the camera where you press the shutter button and the photo's taken 10 seconds later

What shutter speed are you using? Try 1/250s or 1/500s or faster and push up the ISO at f8 for the correct exposure. Are things blurry or not focussed properly? Have you tried manual focus instead of AF just to check that the lens is actually OK?

Apart from the answers already given look in the camera menu for the mirror lock up mode

It's really rather simple. Shoot at faster than 1/300 and you'll be fine, it's called the 1/shutter speed rule. For most applications you should be shooting handheld/monopod and following the 1/shutter speed rule.

If you need to do long exposures on tripod with a long lens, use mirror lock up and self timer. I often do this if I've forgotten my cable release.

Finally there's a cable release which can be used with a D3100, this is the MC-DC2 cable release http://www.europe-nikon.com/...ord-mc-dc2 But isn't it a little expensive for a bit of wire? They do work, but really this isn't a practical solution unless you're shooting landscapes.
