Remote Release for Nikon D50?

Tanya

Is the Nikon D50 DSLR capable of having a remote shutter release used with it?

The Nikon Wireless Remote Control is shown as being compatible with the D50 but all it apparently does is allow you to release the shutter from up to 16 feet away - from in front of the camera. Since the D50 has a Bulb setting on the shutter speed you might want to call Nikon at 1-800-645-6687 and ask if the Nikon Remote Release Cord MC-DC1 is compatible with your D50.It shows as being compatible with the D80. The Bulb setting allows you to keep the shutter open as long as you like or until the battery dies - whichever comes first.

Unfortunately, the D50 doesn't haven't a provision for a mechanical or wired electronic remote release. You'll need to get the Nikon ML-L3 infrared remote release.

From Nikon's website - ML-L3 remote control transmitter:
Compatible with N65, N75, D70, D70s, and D50 Cameras

B&H has got them for $16.95 - direct link here. That's a lot cheaper than you can get it from any of the Amazon sellers. It's in stock now so if you want it you should pick it up soon as it apparently goes out of stock periodically.

Yep, Ml-l3 will work. So will an old ipaq with tv remote software or a universal ir remote (sanyo vcr usually) as will any of the number of 3rd party nikon ir remotes.
