Purchasing a Nikon D40?

Hi i'm planning on purchasing a nikon d40 as of 2012. The camera was bought in august of 2007 and comes with all the accesories and a 18-55mm lense (Non VR). I'm going to buy it for 250. The shutter count in 5800. [Is this a good deal?!] Is it smart to buy a camera that was manufactured 5 years ago?
Let me know what you think.

5800 is nothing for a D40.In august 2007 that was already an older model. 250 what? I'd compare that to a D3000, in my opinion the price for a used D40 shouldn't be more than 40% of the price of a new D3000.

The long discontinued Nikon D40 is ancient digital technology. The 18-55mm zoom without VR has also been long discontinued.
At B&H - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/...ovideo.com - you can buy a brand new Nikon D3100 with 18-55mm VR zoom for $546.95 with free USA shipping. This price is after a $100.00 Instant Savings from B&H.
In my opinion you'd be wise to spend the extra money and get a DSLR that's brand new with a full warranty.
For all you know the used D40 you're looking at may have been dropped or have other problems that won't be apparent until after you've bought it.

5 years is a long long period for any technology… Today's even point and shoot are far better than 3 years old point and shoot camera. And you are taking 5 years old technology in DSLR
if don't have much money to buy a new one.save money. And buy only updated technology camera.
Having D40 is not worthy.
