Pros and cons Nikon d5100?
What are some good things and bad things about the Nikon d5100
The only con that I see in the D5100 is that it does not have an internal AF motor
however, the fact that Nikon is currently in the process of updating all lenses so that the lenses contain the AF motor is going on, so it really isn't that big of an issue at all. You can still use pretty much all F bayonet lenses since 1957 without a problem.
now on to my rant about telling you what the good things and bad things are- they are what you make of it. To me, a con might be that the camera is light. I dislike light cameras. I find a Nikon D300 with Sigma 300mm f/2.8 very manageable when doing freehand, but another person may require a tripod to even handle that lens.
so go to a store and see for yourself what you like and what you dislike about it

Basically it has the excellent 16mp Sony sensor but is a bit cheaper than the D7000. One thing it lacks is a weather sealed body.
Good: It's a Nikon, a technologically superior brand. You can stick to it until the day you die if it continues to work.
