Is it better to go for an External Mic or Sound recorder device?(HDSLR)?

Hi

I can't actually decide here.
in my case the two that i chose are Rode on-camera Vid mic VS Zoom H1
Both are the same price available for me and i'm stuck here.
The pick-up pattern of the rode is very good and useful
but more control on the voice from the Zoom like level meters or the size of it.
the reason that i don't think that buying the rode mic is that much useful is because
i'm using Nikon D5100 which doesn't have Audio metering bars or Level control
so a Dual system recording for more control is useful here.

What should i ask my aunt for?

Hi! My aunt (whom i consider is very economically stable ) always asks me if i want anything and i always tell her not to worry that i'm fine. My 16th birthday is coming up and i really want a nikon d3200 or a canon rebel t3i which are in some ways similar cameras and they are relatively similar as well in the price range. Id say max. 500$ or 600$
she has two sons and one is a college grad and he is working and the other one graduates highschool next year like i do. And she always tells me i'm like the daughter she never had because she likes to buy me things since she has always bought things for boys.
the thing is i'm really shy when it comes to this like i don't know if i should ask her for this, is it too much to ask for? Should i just ask for something else then. I don't want to bother. Its like i do want the camera but i just am a bit afraid of asking

I'm wondering what kind of camera I could get a decent price?

My brother has a Nikon D5100. I'm moving to Oklahoma later this year and I would like to get a nice camera that can take pictures of lightning and among other things. I see D3100, D3200, D5200. I don't really get the differences. All I see is how much they all cost. Since I also don't know much about cameras I would like one that wouldn't be too complicated. I can follow instructions fine and I could probably figure it out, but I don't need one that can do all kinds of things when I just want something that can take nice, decent pictures without spending a **** ton of money.

I can't use the Auto-focus mode in my Nikon d3200?

It all started when I had an out-of-town trip with friends when I tried to take a photo of the falls and beaches and trees with the sun flares. I thought it either got too much sun exposure or or something is broken inside or my camera really needs cleaning, which i don't know how and i can't find anyone who knows how. Also, I can't set up the White balance, ISO, AF-area mode, etc in the Shooting Menu. I tried resetting all but, still, nothing. I also can't bring it to the city to get cleaned(i'm in a town--fare is so much for me), i can't afford it. So right now, I only use the manual focusing, which gives me blur captures(not good in taking pictures esp in action) and my photo quality changed. I love taking pictures of every moment that happened and having nice landscape pictures satisfy me and I know i'm very careless in taking care of the camera. I need help.

How to change the aperture on my Nikon D40?

I set my camera to the A setting, and I was using the command wheel (the one on the back, not the top) to change the numbers when i looked through my viewfinder. The numbers are changing, but I don't see any change in the depth of field. I put my hand in front of the lens, but far enough for it to focus, and my hand and the background were both equally as focused. What am I doing wrong?

Oh, one more thing: how do aperture, shutter speed, and iso play into each other? How should I adjust them to compliment each other?

Is the nikon d5300 the best multipurpose camera for filming and photography?

I'm a student and my budget is around £500. I was going to buy the nikon d5300, but I don't know how practical it will be for filming (my current projects are to film a music video and a short film)
If you own this camera, or it's predecessor, could you tell me:
Does it take a long time to load and save files?
Will storage be a problem if I'm taking lots of shots in one day?
Is the camera good in low light?
Would you recommend this camera?

And if not, please could you tell me which you think is best for me.
I can push budget slightly.
Danke.

Added (1). Oh and I currently have the D3000 which is very out-dated and doesn't have the option to film.
