Opnions on the Nikon D3100?
Opnions on the Nikon D3100?
It is a fine entry level dSLR, but its replacement, the D3200 is so superior in its sensor performance, it is well work the extra money to buy it instead.
Here is how they compare
The Nikon D3100 has been replaced by the 24mp D3200.

That being said, that puts the excellent D3100 at a great price point, at the price has dropped dramatically since the D3200 was introduced.

Both camera have excellent manual controls for the creative photographer, a wide range of auto modes, for those standard situations, and a Guide Mode that teaches you as you go.
The only shortcoming of either camera is the inability to autofocus with older Nikon lenses, but all current Nikon & 3rd party lenses are coming out with the built-in autofocus motors, so that's not a concern, unless you have a bag or two of older optics.
Meh. Blah.
Same for the Nikon D3200, D5100, etc. Just more of the same. Nikon puts out the same old thing year after year, hardly any innovation. It gets the job done, it's nothing special. The same can be said of Canon's entry level dSLRs. Only Sony and Pentax seem to be shaking things up, offering options not available with the other two. Look at Sony's A37, A57 and the new Pentax K 30 before you do anything.
