Old film nikkor lenses I can use on my d90 DSLR?

I currently own a nikon d90, and am currently looking for new lenses for it. I was wondering if people sold there old lenses on ebay that work just as good on DSLR's? I would like to purchase a great quality lens, that work almost or just as great as the new models for considerably less…

One of the biggest benefits of owning a Nikon system is the number of lenses that are compatible with the cameras. Pretty much any lens with the Nikon F-bayonet mount will work on the D90. Ken Rockwell has a good chart showing Nikon lens compatibility with different bodies that will probably help you out: http://www.kenrockwell.com/...y-lens.htm

Something I've seen from my own searches is that even Nikon's older lenses hold a good percentage of their value. If you're looking for a really inexpensive way to pick up some good glass, and you shoot in manual mode, you might consider finding an adapter ring that will allow you to mount M42 screw mount lenses on Nikon's F mount. I have a Fotodiox M42 to Nikon adapter (about $9 + shipping from Amazon.com) and a collection of M42 lenses I've picked up from local thrift stores for a few dollars apiece. I've gotten some great primes that I wouldn't have been able to afford at the time had I stuck with only Nikon lenses, and they all work well on my D90.

It will works, but with a few inconveniences. First, old manual focus lenses simply don't autofocus. Second, there's no auto-metering, meaning the only mode you can use the lens in is in M mode where you have to use a guess-and-check method to get the exposure correct.

Very simple answer, Nikon AF will work. Nikon Ai or Ai-s will work but you have to figure out exposure yourself.
