Nikon dslr d5100 zoom?

I'm new to the whole dslr world. Can you zoom during video on the nikon d5100? I've had some digital cameras that don't even do that so i want to make sure that you can with this dslr.also, does the d5100 allow you to capture photos during shooting a video?

Since the zoom is completely manual, yes you can. You must physically twist the zoom ring on the lens to make it work. Doesn't matter if you are shooting video or stills.
I don't know if can capture stills with video… But it probably does.
