Your question doesn't make any sense. You zoom by turning the ring on the lens. There's no way for the lens to "go back to regular size" after you take a photo.
If you're talking about using live view where you can enlarge or zoom in, then there's nothing that you can do about it. After taking a photo, the camera will reset the live view. You typically wouldn't want live view to stay zoomed in because how else are you to see the entire composition?
A DSLR isn't an iPad.
You can magnify parts of the image (or even crop them in camera) to aid focus, but any zooming must be done by the lens. If you can't get close enough, buy a longer lens.
Zooming with a dSLR is manually done by turning the wide rubber ring on the lens.
Your next question then would probably be like, "Why is my dSLR's zoom so limited?". Well, you're supposed to walk too.
You turn the zoom control on the lens itself. You have most likely simply been "magnifying" the centre of the picture which you see on the screen.
