Nikon DSLR camera body?

Right now I have a Nikon D3000. But I didn't do a whole lot of research on the camera before I bought it. I have been stuff that it is not that good of a camera. So now I'm trying to buy a new body. What are some good Nikon body's that are at a very good price but are still a good camera?

To make this an excellent camera first you have to know how to operate it… Not sell it. You'll find out if you bother to learn the camera instead of just trying to do "snaps" with it… It's actually an excellent camera. Most of the problem, I'd say, is you.

The D3000 is an excellent camera to lean on with it's Guide feature. Take a couple of years to learn on the camera, then replace it only when you have mastered it and are ready to move on.

I would highly recommend the Pentax k-r over any nikon. If you really want nikon though the nikon d5100 is a great beginners camera that costs $650. For something cheaper get the nikon d3100 is not bad either. The best nikon you can get though is the d7000.
Make sure you learn how to use your camera before you buy a new one though!

True, th D3000 wasn't as good as it could have been and was quickly replaced with the D3100.
Still, if you replace your camera now with a newer one, then this will cost you money. You'd have to sell your current D3000 and buy a more expensive new camera.
That makes one ask the question, "why?"
What do you find lacking about your D3000 that you wish to get fixed by spending money? Do you wish to spend some $300 just so that some other people say, "oh, that's a really nice camera!" instead of "that's an ok one?"
Let's be honest - if you can't specifically tell why your current camera needs to be upgraded, then you likely wouldn't be able to tell a difference between photos taken with it and the photos taken with e.g. A D3100 or D5100. Simply because you don't know what to look out for. Please don't fall for the misconception that buying a more expensive camera will magically improve your photos. It won't. More expensive, newer cameras tend to do better in low light situations than the older ones, but that's about all that has been significantly improved about the technical image quality of a camera body in the past years. All other aspects of image quality come from the lens and most importantly the photographer's skill.
Other than that a newer camera may have a bigger feature set, but are you specifically missing some features? If not, then you don't need them, plain and simple.
This is what your camera is capable of:
If you haven't taken photos like this with it yet, then you're not exhausting the capabilities of your camera and wouldn't get any better photos with a more expensive camera either.

You just bought the camera and read somewhere it's bad. I'm sorry but that's a really bad reason to buy a new camera when you don't even know what yours can do. Just try it a bit, all DSLRs are great, it's not like Nikon is going to release a model that takes bad pictures. The reason for good pictures is the photographer!
But anyways, D3100, D5100 are good for below $800. And all are good DSLRs.

If only you tried to learn how to use a dSLR properly, you will discover that all dSLR's are basically the same and instead spend your precious cash for additional lenses.

The Nikon D3100 is an excellent entry-level DSLR. Could you pay more to get a "better" camera with "more features"? Absolutely. But why? Would you use those features? I looked long and hard at several in my research before buying - the models I considered were the Canon T2i, Canon 60D, the Nikon D90, and of course, the Nikon D3100.In the end, I decided the extra features on those other cameras were features that I likely wouldn't use. I'm interested mainly in taking lots of
pictures while traveling -- pictures of clouds, landscapes, maybe some street photography. I wanted a smaller, lighter DSLR with good battery life and great image quality. The D3100 delivers on all accounts.
