Nikon digital cameras and lenses?

Can a nikon lens with an aperture ring be used on a digital nikon camera to control the aperture? I know the lens will work set at the smallest aperture on some, but is there one where you can actually use it?
Also, is there a Nikon that has a button for aperture and shutter speed in manual mode? I have the d5000 and in manual I can't control both, and i don't like the camera choosing, and my aperture ring won't work with it.

Haven't had my hands on the D5000 yet but on my old D50 you would turn the control dial to change shutter speed and turn the same dial while holding the exposure comp button to change aperture. I would guess your D5000 is set up the same if it only has one control dial.

Not with your camera. The aperture ring, set to the smallest aperture is what couples the lens to your camera's meter. It will not operate otherwise. However, the camera will work if you want to use the aperture ring to control the aperture (although I can't think of why you would want to), you just have to do in manual mode and figure out the exposure on your own. In the more advanced cameras, like the D700/D300s/D3/s/x, you can use the aperture ring in manual mode and still meter.

Sounds to me like you need to read the owner's manual of your camera. You don't have the faintest idea of how to operate it. Your camera doesn't have an index finger dial on the front, in addition to the thumb dial on the back, but there's a way to control both without two wheels, using the exposure compensation button (+/-) and the thumb dial, together. Here's the thing, the instructions on how to do that are in the owner's manual. Imagine that.
