Nikon D7000 shooting in the rain?

Is it ok to shoot if it's raining? Is it weather proof? Does this include just light rain or all types?

No it's not in any way weather proof. It has some basic resistance against occasional accidential drops of rain, but that's all. Do not put it to the test!

Besides, even if you had a weather sealed camera body, you'd also need a weather sealed lens. Otherwise the body might survive the water, but the lens won't.

Unfortunately there's no official statement from Nikon how much splashing it can handle… So if you try and it fails, then you have no basis to make a warranty claim.
The manual states this on page 289:

"Keep dry: This product is not waterproof and may malfunction if immersed in water or exposed to high levels of humidity. Rusting of the internal mechanism can cause irreparable damage."

Supposedly people did take it out in rain without problems, but i wouldn't risk it.

Officially it's not weather proof. From personal experience I can tell you that Nikon bodies that are not weather proof can still take an amazing amount of rain and keep going.

Personally I'd buy a rainsleeve. These are good http://optechusa.com/rainsleeve.html and retail for less than a tenner for a pack of two.

Some light rain drops probably won't hurt it, but it's probably not a good idea to expose it to pouring rain. Keep it in a water resistant case and take your pictures from beneath an umbrella or other shelter if possible.
Have some dry cotton handkerchiefs to wipe off the water drops. Wipe off drops from the front lens element, so they don't become blobs in your picture.

I have taken pictures under falling snow with my D90.
