Nikon D7000 Macro Lens?
I was looking for a macro lens as a gift but do not know much about cameras. This person likes insects, macros of pets, instruments, seeds and flowers. The camera is a Nikon D7000. Was looking at the Nikon AF-S Micro Nikkor 60mm f/2.8G ED Lens, but not sure if it will get close enough etc.
The 60mm micro lens is very good and gets excellent reviews. The 105mm micro is even better if you can afford it, and allows you to stand further back from the subject, but both will get you close enough.
The Nikon 85mm micro lens is also pretty good, but not quite up to the optical quality of the 60mm or the 105mm if you can afford the extra. The 85mm does have VR (vibration reduction) though. That's not useful for macro as it isn't effective close up, but it does mean that it doubles as a nice portrait lens.
It is only the 40mm micro lens which is worth avoiding, because you have to get so close to the subject that you tend to block your own light. The optical quality of the 40mm isn't as good either - but that's not surprising given the price.
