Nikon d7000, is it a good camera?

I want to get into photography as a news photographer, is the nikon d7000 a good choice? I'm just starting out and have never had a Dslr camera.

It's an outstanding camera and definitely will let you break into the biz. Most news photographers I know are shooting with a full frame camera, but the D7000 isn't anything to sneeze it. It even has us canon shooters drooling over it.

Its an absolutely amazing camera! It might be a little confusing to start off with but its really good for news photography… Or any other photography. If you look at mine its only taken with a nikon d3000 and the nikon d7000 will be a lot better.

Its perhaps the best DSLR in terms of quality vs.price you can buy these days.
And since it is a new camera, it is better than anything from Nikon other than their flagship D3s/D3x.
That will change in late Aug as Nikon will announce at least two new DSLRs.
But those will be high-end Nikons; replacing their advanced and professional cameras. This will not affect the D7000, as it is still an outstanding camera. It will however, return the D7000 to Nikon's intended midrange position in their DSLR lineup.
Unless you want to spend $3, 000 or more on one of the yet-unannounced Nikons, go with the D7000. I'm saying that while the D7000 is great, the new Nikons will probably be that much greater. But unless you intend to spend that kind of money, the D7000 will provide years of enjoyment.
