Nikon D7000 Focus-lock besides AE-L AF-L button?
I just replaced my D70s with a D7000. The D70s allowed me to press the shutter button halfway to lock the focus, and then recompose my picture without the focus changing before pressing the button the rest of the way for a photo.
I want to have the AE-L AF-L button as a dedicated AE-L exposure lock only.
Is there a setting in the menu that allows the focus to be locked via pressing the shutter halfway? I've looked through the manual and looked through the menu and haven't figured it out yet.

Thank you for your help! Look on page 232 in your user manual. The D70 was unique in some ways. My favorite was the maximum flash sync speed of 1/500s. I really can't get locking focus with just the shutter release button however. What if you decide to refocus? Most dSLRs nowadays lock focus using the AE-L button. As I see it, you will have to use the AE-L button or change the way you compose the shot and focus right before you take it. Thank you for your help! I figured it out after some time and experimentation. Page 91 in the manual if anyone else out there struggles with this. Single-servo AF is the mode the camera must be on to allow the shutter to lock the autofocus.
fhotoace; thank you for the help and I really appreciate you taking the time to look that up. I first tried this and set it on exposure only lock. But the focus still wouldn't lock with the shutter button.
keerok; thank you for your help. My d70s was indeed a great camera and I took hundreds of thousands or millions of photos before the internal mirror broke. I appreciate your knowledge of the d70. I wish the d7000.had the same flash sync speed as the d70. I did not realize this fact until you mentioned it and I looked it up; I assumed a newer camera would meet or exceed my old one in every way. Nope! Bummer.
