Nikon D60 will not focus in automatic mode?

I'm having a huge problem with my camera, I have a Nikon D60 with a 18-55mm lens and I can't get it to snap pictures hardly anymore. In manual mode it snaps, but in automatic it does not. I tried cleaning it with a cleaning kit, still does not work. I'm expecting a baby this summer and this is my only camera… I can't afford to buy a new one. What's wrong with it and what can I do to fix it

Try setting the camera to Auto mode, Auto ISO, Auto white balance, AF on, and EV to zero. Take a picture of a brightly colored car parked under the sun from about 15 feet. If the camera can't do it, bring it to the store you bought it from. They should at least tell you where their authorized service center is if not bring your camera there themselves.
