Nikon D60 lens recommendations?

I have a Nikon D60. I will be going to a Yankee-Red Sox game and I want to take some really good pictures. I'm going to need a lens with good zoom. I already have the 18-55mm lens. Any recommendations, from people who know what they're talking about please.

Also, I want something with AF and VR.

Taking a photo from the stands, a 200-300mm lens is going to be marginal, unless you are close to the field.

Any further away and expect to spend $1K and more (perhaps a lot more) for anything 400mm and longer.

This was with a 400mm lens (35mm equivalent) about 10 rows up in the stands:

If you can get that close, a 70-300mm Nikon lens will give you a 450mm equivalent in 35mm.
