Nikon D5100 (18-105mm Lens) Vs Canon Powershot SX40 HS?

I'm very torn between choosing the Nikon or Canon.

Any help?

You may want to spend some time defining your expectations of any camera you buy and by visiting the Nikon and Canon websites

If you need the reach of an 800mm lens without spending £10, 000, then you do need the SX40 HS. Otherwise a system camera wins each time.
