Nikon d5000 won't turn on with Tamron SP AF28-75 XP Di LD IF attached?

I have the tamron lens, and it has the built in AF motor, but the camera body will not turn on when this lens is attached. It turns on with the stock 18-55 nikon af-s lens, but nothing at all with the tamron. Not even booting up to the menu on the lcd screen.

This should tell you something about the false economy of buying generic lenses.

You can call Nikon and see what they have to say, but my guess is that the Tamron is not compatible with your D5000

Strange… Are you sure that the lens is attached properly? Perhaps it helps to "wiggle" it a bit, without pressing the lens release button. Also check if the contacts are clean.

If that doesn't help, take it back to the store. Then there likely is some serious problem with the lenses' electronics.

Edit:
I took a quick google search, a general incompatibility between this lens and the D5000 does not seem to be reported anywhere. So i'd bet that this particular lens is defective.

Fhotoace is a nice, knowledgeable guy for most things but he knows almost nothing about 3rd party lenses on nikon.

I've seen this same lens work on a number of other nikon bodies. Sounds like a defective one, take it ack.
