I'm thinking about about selling my d5000 with kit lens and 55-200 vr lens and getting a D5100 because of 1080p video and AF video. I make YouTube videos and i want to sPend less and not get a video camera but I want a 1080p camera with stereo mic and continuous AF. Do you think this is a good idea? H

Actually the D5100 has a higher performing sensor than the D5000

It's abt time you look at Canon T3i/600D, it is similarly priced as D5100 but has better hd video quality and better controls in video mode. Canon T3i doesn't have continuous autofocus as D5100 but that continuous autofocus isn't good at all and not accurate. What Canon T3i has is manual aperture control in video mode, manual mic volume control, in video zoom which still retains good quality even though it is digital zoom and not lens zoom and much more, all these features aren't avialable in Nikon D5100. If you r into videos and photos, Canons are the way to go.

Go for it, it's a really nice camera.
make sure you really like the d5100, there are lots of other choices out there, be it canon, sony, pentax, or even another nikon like the d90.

Normally the advice is to skip one generation when staying in the same class unless the newer model has a must-have feature. In your case it does so yes, this would make sense to do.

I would advice you to do a bit of market research, see what you can expect to make on your D5000 with twin lenses versus body only and compare that with D5100 prices.

I would not recommend it. The D5100 is not enough of a jump up in features to warrant taking the loss on selling your D5000.

If you want to upgrade, sell your D5000 and buy a D7000.
