Nikon D5000 Temperature?

I'm currently in whistler and it can get as cold as -10 degrees on the mountain. However, i know that there can be some very nice scenery(HDR as well) up on the mountain. I'm wondering if my Nikon D5000 will be able to survive the cold and wind, i don't want to break it.

Your camera is a little bulky for this but my suggestion would be to keep it inside your coat until you're ready to shoot. Do your shots and put it back in your coat to keep it warm.

I've not had any experience using a dslr in cold weather but there are tiny moving parts inside that could be vulnerable to cold so the safest thing to do is keep as warm as you can.

Your camera will survive the low temperature. You will notice a drop in the capacity of the battery (it will return to normal when you use it in normal temp). Keep the battery fully charge and if it does not work, take it out and pit in your jacket to warm it up before using it.

When you bring your camera from the cold to the warmer indoor, the lens may fog up. This is okay. Leave it in a well ventilated place to let it dry up. Don't place it on the heater!

Enjoy and take lots of picture.
