Planning to buy a my first DSLR, found a second hand Nikon d50 with 18-55mm lens. The camera is 3 year old. He is asking for 17.5k, is that a good price?

Added (1). The lens is a AF-S DX Zoom - Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5 - 5.6G ED

That's 285 euros, seems a bit steep. That kind of money almost buys a new D3000 here. Over here 14k would be a much fairer price. Even then, check the counter. Take an image shot with this camera and look at it with opanda exif viewer. Somewhere at the bottom will be the number of pictures shot with this camera. IF that's over 20000 you'd better look elsewhere.

It's okay, but honestly the more important question is what lens does it come with? If it's just the kit lens then I'd probably just get a new one, but if it's an aftermarket lens then maybe. The previous post said avoid the purchase if it's at 20, 000 shots… That's actually 100% wrong- Nikon's are rated at rated at 100, 000 shots, but the D3 shutter life is 300, 000 open/closes, D700 - 150, 000, D90 and under - 100, 000. Check out the lens and see how much people are selling them for used… It may be worth the price for just the lens as they can go pretty steep.

Check out http://www.digitalimaginghq.com/. You can probably get what you're looking for at a relatively decent price. It pays to shop around a little bit sometimes, and it's easy to do on this website. You can look at different lenses and styles, too.
