Nikon D40 Shudder Speed?

How do you force the Camera's shudder speed to be Instant no matter the lighting?

In dark areas it makes the camera take "Longer" pictures thus giving it a blurry effect if i move even a millimeter

Only way i can get Instant pictures if i use flash, but i dislike flash.

You can't. The shutter speed is determined by the amount of light entering the camera. If it is dark you need a longer shutter speed to get correct exposure. Your only options are to use the largest aperture your lens has or raise the ISO. With the kit lens your largest aperture will be either F4 or F5.6 when zoomed out. A higher ISO works but it comes with a price. Higher ISO settings mean more noise. Neither of these options will work well if it is really dark though.

Exposure is a combination of shutter speed, aperture and ISO compared to the available light. To little light and you will have long exposures.

You will have to have an insanely larger aperture in combination with a super high ISO, which, for the D40 is pretty bad. The faster the shutter speed, the less light enters the camera, therefore the darker the picture. You will need to use longer shutter speeds in combination with a large aperture and high ISO's to get more-decent pictures in darker settings.

if you still can't, use a tripod to stop all movement.
